Joy Dubost PhD, RD, CSSD
Joy Dubost is a Registered Dietitian, Board Certified in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and an experienced Food Scientist. She has worked in the areas of food science and nutrition for over 15 years, which includes clinical nutrition, nutrition communications, public policy, recipe and product development, and nutrition education. She owns Dubost Food & Nutrition Solutions, LLC., which specializes in scientific advising, education, and communications, including public speaking, writing, and media relations and nutrition spokesperson. One of her most rewarding clients included working with the Bermuda Department of Health and the Minister of Health to assist them in addressing adult and childhood obesity in Bermuda.
She served five years as the Senior Director of Nutrition at the National Restaurant Association, located in Washington DC where she provided leadership and expertise on a wide spectrum of food science and nutrition issues related to the restaurant and foodservice industry. In this role, she was responsible for the development and implementation of the award winning, nationally recognized science based children’s dining program called Kids LiveWell. With this program she had the opportunity to work on Michelle Obama’s Lets Move! program as well with the Partnership for Healthier America.
Joy has also been very active and influential in the area of nutrition policy. She has developed a number of relationships with key regulatory government agencies, including the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). She has led various policy initiatives by developing and providing written and oral comments to key regulatory agencies which addressed an array of topics, including menu labeling, Dietary Guidelines, voluntary sodium targets, and elimination of trans fat in the food supply.
Joy has been very active in the media over the past ten years. She served for five years as a national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the largest professional association for nutritionists and dietitians with over 80,000 members. She also previously served as a national media spokesperson for the Institute of Food Technologist, as well as a spokesperson for the New York State Dietetic Association. Joy is passionate about communicating impactful, balanced messages to her clients, the media, and consumers. She is a trusted source of nutrition information and has spoken to the media, athletes, students, consumers, and corporate clients on a wide range of nutrition and food science topics. She has published a number of peer reviewed scientific papers and frequently authors various nutrition articles for professional and consumer media outlets. Joy has been quoted in hundreds of local and national publications, such as USA Today, Washington Post, Men’s Fitness, Shape, MSNBC Today, Discovery, LA Times, and NY Times, and has made numerous television appearances including, ABC News, CNN, CBS News, and FOX News. Joy has also conducted radio interviews across the country.
Joy received her Doctorate in Food Science from Pennsylvania State University, her Master’s Degree in Food Science from University of Georgia and her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Chemistry from Hood College and completed her dietetic internship at the University of Michigan Hospitals. She has also completed scientific coursework at UC Davis Extension on brewing beer.
In addition to food science and nutrition, Joy is also passionate about beer. She is an avid home brewer and is a Beer Steward with the Master Brewers Association of the Americas. Based on the latest science Joy believes that moderate consumption of beer provides health benefits and can be incorporated into an overall healthy eating plan. Joy loves to educate others on the various types and styles of beer, as well as how to pair beer with food, including healthier options.
On a personal note, Joy is also a competitive figure skater and has medaled in several national competitions. She also serves as member of National Network of Sports Scientists for the United States Figure Skating Association.
